It has recently been reported in the technology sector that Adobe, the creators of the Flash plugin, has urged regulators to investigate Apple over its restrictions placed on Flash app development for its devices.

At present, developers cannot use the Adobe Flash software plugin due to the closed policies adopted by Apple. However, an inquiry may be launched by the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission in the US into the fact that developers are currently forced to use only specific Apple tools when creating apps on the iPod Touch, iPhone and the newly released iPad.

Adobe feels that this policy is unfair and restrictive to developers and restricts further competition in the app and games development sector.

Mike Chambers, principal product manager for developer relations at Adobe has said in a recent statement regarding Apple’s policy:

“However, [openness] is the exact opposite of what Apple wants. They want to tie developers down to their platform, and restrict their options to make it difficult for developers to target other platforms.”
